A peptide as part of a probe
A probe can combine a recognition element with a label. The peptide, linker and label together define the studied entity. Findings for that construct are not automatically properties of the unlabeled peptide.
Signal is more than binding
Ask whether the signal reflects specific recognition, nonspecific retention or another property of the construct. Interpret intensity relative to background and location rather than as an isolated number.
Useful comparisons
Record label identity, construct stability, model and acquisition time. Target-negative or appropriate blocking controls can inform specificity, depending on design. Compare methods using equivalent acquisition and analysis criteria.
Validation has a defined scope
A laboratory probe is not automatically a validated diagnostic test. Check the intended purpose, model and criteria in the original work. Catalog materials do not inherit diagnostic performance or approval from a published construct.
